SMK GTJ Helmets

The SMK GTJ is an open face helmet built for riders who spend more time in traffic than on the track. It has a sporty shape, a dual visor system and a few thoughtful extras, such as speaker pockets and spectacle friendly padding.

If you have been searching for an SMK GTJ helmet, this page brings the whole GTJ range together, so you can compare finishes and graphics in one place. Every helmet is genuine, certified to ISI, DOT and ECE 22.06, and comes with a one year manufacturer warranty.

What you get with every SMK GTJ

  • Dual visor system: a long, wide anti scratch visor plus an internal retractable sun visor
  • Quick release visor that comes off in seconds
  • EIRT shell, an energy impact resistant thermoplastic, with multi density EPS inside
  • Two shell sizes, so smaller heads do not get an oversized helmet
  • Removable, washable, breathable and hypoallergenic liner with moisture managing antistatic fabric
  • Speaker pockets, a padded quick release chin strap and an eye glass easyfit design
  • Channeled air intakes, top air vents and a hot air exhaust

Who the SMK GTJ is for

It suits daily commuters, scooter riders and tourers who ride short and medium distances. The sun visor means you do not need sunglasses for bright mornings, and the speaker pockets make it easy to add a headset for navigation and calls.

An open face helmet leaves your jaw exposed, so it is not the best choice for long, fast highway runs. If that is your regular ride, our wider range of motorcycle helmets has helmets with more coverage.

Choosing a GTJ

Gloss shows off the paint and matt hides fingerprints. Solid colours look clean and graphic versions stand out in a parking lot. All of them share the same shell, features and safety standards, so you can choose purely on looks.

SMK builds its open face helmets on two shell sizes. Sizes S and M share the M shell, and sizes L, XL and XXL share the L shell. Weights are approximate, plus or minus 50 g.

How to measure: wrap a tape around your head, one inch above your eyebrows, and read the number in centimetres. The helmet should sit snug and should not move when you shake your head. A loose helmet can come off in an impact.

Our helmet fitting guide explains what to check once the helmet is on.

Looking after your helmet

Hand wash the removable liner, wipe the shell with a soft damp cloth and use a microfibre cloth on the visors. The helmet maintenance guide has the full routine.

Frequently asked questions

Q1: What is the SMK GTJ helmet?

A1: The GTJ is SMK's sporty open face helmet series for tourers and urban riders. It has a long anti scratch visor, an internal sun visor, speaker pockets and a lightweight thermoplastic shell. You pick the finish and the graphics.

Q2: Is the SMK GTJ a half face helmet?

A2: Riders often call it that, but it is an open face helmet. It covers your ears and the back of your head and has no chin bar. A half helmet covers only the top of the head.

Q3: Is the SMK GTJ ISI, DOT and ECE 22.06 certified?

A3: Yes. The GTJ range is certified to all three standards.

Q4: How does the dual visor system work?

A4: The long outer visor protects your face from wind and dust. Behind it, an internal sun visor slides down in bright light and slides back up in shade. Both are operated while riding.

Q5: Can I use a Bluetooth headset with the GTJ?

A5: The helmet has built in speaker pockets for communication headset speakers. Check that the headset you choose fits the pocket size.

Q6: Which GTJ size should I pick?

A6: Measure your head one inch above the eyebrows and match it to the size chart on this page. Sizes S and M use the M shell, and sizes L, XL and XXL use the L shell.

Q7: Can I wear spectacles with the GTJ?

A7: Yes. The eye glass easyfit design leaves room for the arms of spectacles, so they slide in and out without a fight.
