SMK Open Face Helmets
SMK open face helmets give you the light, airy feel of a classic jet helmet, built by a brand that designs in Europe and makes in India. They suit city commuting, scooters, cruisers, cafe racers and relaxed weekend rides.
Two series cover the range. GTJ is the sporty, tourer friendly line, with a long anti scratch visor and an internal sun visor. You can browse it on our SMK GTJ helmets page. Retro Jet is the vintage styled line, with leather cushioning and a visor you can swap or take off completely.
Every helmet is genuine and comes with a one year manufacturer warranty. The size chart further down shows shell sizes too, which helps you get the fit right first time.

How to choose an SMK open face helmet
Start with the visor. If you ride into low sun often, a built in sun visor saves you from fumbling with sunglasses. If you like goggles, pick a helmet whose visor comes off cleanly.
Then think about the finish and the cushioning. Gloss shows off paint, matt hides fingerprints and dust, and leather trim adds a premium feel. Finally, be honest about where you ride. An open face helmet leaves your jaw uncovered, so it is better suited to city and relaxed riding than to long highway runs.
Is an SMK half face helmet the same as an open face helmet?
Many riders search for an SMK half face helmet or an SMK half helmet when they actually want this style. Strictly, a half helmet covers only the top of the head. The GTJ and Retro Jet are open face helmets, so they cover your ears and the back of your head and have no chin bar. If that is the look you are after, you are in the right place.
Certifications explained
ISI is the Indian standard, and it is what the law asks for on any two wheeler helmet sold in India. DOT is the US standard and ECE 22.06 is the newest European one. Both the GTJ and Retro Jet series carry all three. Each product page lists exactly what that helmet has.

How to measure: wrap a tape around your head, one inch above your eyebrows, and read the number in centimetres. The helmet should sit snug and should not move when you shake your head. A loose helmet can come off in an impact.

Looking after your helmet
Wipe the shell with a soft cloth and mild soap, hand wash removable liners and keep the visor away from rough sponges. The helmet maintenance guide has the full routine.

Frequently asked questions
Q1: Which SMK open face helmet should I buy?
A1: Choose by look and by how you ride. GTJ is the sporty one, with a long visor and an internal sun visor for changing light. Retro Jet is the vintage one, with leather cushioning and a visor you can swap or remove. If you mostly commute in bright sun, GTJ makes more sense. If you want a classic look for a cruiser or cafe racer, pick Retro Jet.
Q2: What is the difference between the SMK GTJ and the SMK Retro Jet?
A2: Both are open face helmets from SMK. The GTJ has a modern sporty shape and an internal retractable sun visor. The Retro Jet has a vintage jet shape, leather and suede cushioning and a transformation kit for changing visors and side plates.
Q3: Are SMK open face helmets ISI certified?
A3: Yes. The GTJ and Retro Jet helmets are certified to ISI, DOT and ECE 22.06. Each product page lists the standards for that helmet.
Q4: Is an SMK half face helmet the same as an open face helmet?
A4: In everyday Indian use, yes. Riders say half face when they mean a helmet that covers the ears but has no chin bar. Strictly, a half helmet covers only the top of the head, while the SMK GTJ and Retro Jet are open face helmets with more coverage.
Q5: How do I find my size, and what are the shell sizes?
A5: Measure around your head one inch above your eyebrows and match the number to the size chart on this page. SMK builds these helmets on two shell sizes: M for sizes S and M, and L for sizes L, XL and XXL.
Q6: Can I use an SMK open face helmet on the highway?
A6: You can, but your face and jaw are exposed to wind, grit and insects. Open face helmets suit city and relaxed riding best. If you often ride fast or far, see our full range of motorcycle helmets.
Q7: Can I wear goggles with an SMK Retro Jet helmet?
A7: Yes. The visor can be removed, and extra side covers let you ride with goggles or sunglasses instead.
Q8: What warranty do SMK open face helmets come with?
A8: They carry a one year manufacturer warranty against manufacturing defects.
