SMK GTJ Escape Open Face Matt Helmet
The SMK GTJ Escape Matt is an open face helmet with a matt finish, retractable sun visor and speaker pockets. It is certified to ISI, DOT and ECE 22.06.
Sizes S to XXL on two shell sizes, with a one year manufacturer warranty.
Some rides start the moment you decide to leave. The GTJ Escape in a matt finish is built for that kind of morning, with a flat, low glare shell and a sun visor ready for the low light on the way out.
It belongs to SMK's GTJ series for tourers and urban riders, with a sporty shape and a long visor. If you would rather have a shiny shell, the gloss Escape is available too. The full line is in our SMK GTJ helmets.
The Escape graphic looks like armour plating: faceted, geometric panels cut across the crown and down the side, with thin sharp slashes between them and the SMK name on the brow and the side. It gives the helmet a purposeful, technical look.
Why riders pick it
It is a good match for weekend trips and quick getaways. The matt shell stays calm in strong light, and the two shell sizes keep the helmet from looking bulky.
Pack the saddlebag, set the alarm early and go. Matt shells look particularly good in the low light of early morning, and the inner sun visor is there when the sun finally clears the horizon.
What you get
- Quick release visor, so removing or changing it takes seconds
- Padded comfort chin strap with a quick release buckle
- Easyfit channels for glasses
- Speaker pockets, so a Bluetooth headset does not press on your ears
- Long, wide, scratch resistant visor for a broad view of the road
- Two shell sizes made from EIRT, an energy impact resistant thermoplastic
- Top vents, channeled intakes and a rear exhaust keep air moving
- Liner that comes out for washing, in breathable, hypoallergenic fabric that manages moisture
- Inner sun visor, so tunnels and low sun do not call for sunglasses
Fit and weight
Pick your size from the chart above after measuring your head one inch above the eyebrows. The M shell, used for S and M, weighs around 1,450 g. The L shell, used for L to XXL, weighs around 1,550 g. Both figures are approximate, within 50 g. Our helmet fitting guide shows what a good fit feels like.
Safety
ISI, DOT and ECE 22.06 certified. Like every open face helmet, it leaves your face exposed, so keep it for city riding and easy rides rather than long, fast highway stretches.
Looking after it
Greasy marks come off a matt shell best with a damp cloth and a little mild soap. Avoid rubbing in circles, which can burnish the paint. Our helmet maintenance guide has the details.
Warranty
The helmet comes with a one year manufacturer warranty.
Frequently asked questions
Q1: Is it a half face helmet?
A1: It is an open face helmet. It covers your ears and the back of your head and has no chin bar, while a true half helmet covers only the top of the head.
Q2: Is the sun visor built in?
A2: Yes. It is an internal retractable visor, so there is nothing to carry or attach. Slide it down when the light is harsh.
Q3: Which shell will I get?
A3: Sizes S and M use the M shell. Sizes L, XL and XXL use the L shell.
Q4: How heavy is it?
A4: About 1,450 g on the M shell and about 1,550 g on the L shell, give or take 50 g.
Q5: Gloss or matt: which one should I buy?
A5: They are the same helmet. Gloss shows off the paint, and matt hides dust and fingerprints.
