How to Store Motorcycle Riding Gear Correctly
Published: September 2026
Why This Matters
Most riding gear doesn't wear out from riding, it breaks down from how it's stored between rides. Damp gear stuffed into a sealed bag, a helmet left in direct sun on a parked bike, or a jacket hung in a humid store room all shorten a piece of gear's usable life well before the material or armour would otherwise wear out.
India's climate makes this more of an issue than it is in drier markets most riding gear content is written for. Humidity, heat and monsoon dampness all work against stored gear in ways that a quick wipe down before putting it away doesn't fully address.
This guide covers correct everyday storage, monsoon specific storage, and off-season storage for helmets, jackets, gloves and boots.
- Damp gear stored sealed is the single most common cause of early gear breakdown in India
- Direct sunlight degrades
