Libero is Italian for free, and that is the feeling this helmet is after: light, open and uncomplicated. The GTJ Libero in gloss pairs a sleek shape with graphics and a glossy shell.
It belongs to SMK's GTJ series, which is designed for tourers and urban riders. The same helmet in a flat finish is the matt Libero. The full line is in our SMK GTJ helmets.
The Libero graphic is all curves. Smooth bands run from the brow over the shell and loop around the side in a large sweep, with thin parallel lines following the same path and an SMK name set low on the side.
In use
Two shell sizes keep the helmet compact, and the dual visor system lets you adapt to changing light without stopping.
Open face helmets are about feeling the ride. The Libero keeps that feeling, while the visor and sun visor stop the road from throwing everything at your face.

Size and weight
Five sizes, S to XXL, on two shells. Smaller sizes get the M shell at about 1,450 g and larger ones get the L shell at about 1,550 g, within 50 g either way. The chart above shows head measurements for each. If you are between sizes, read our helmet fitting guide.
Safety marks
This helmet meets three standards: ISI, DOT and ECE 22.06. Check the label inside when it arrives. As with any open face helmet, the jaw is not covered, so it is best for commuting and relaxed rides.
Maintenance
Wipe off bugs and dust soon after a ride, because they are harder to remove once baked on. Use a damp soft cloth, and see the helmet maintenance guide for the liner and visor.
Warranty
The helmet comes with a one year manufacturer warranty.
Frequently asked questions
Q1: Can I call it a half face helmet?
A1: Many riders do, but it is an open face helmet that covers more of your head than a half helmet and leaves the chin bar out.
Q2: What do the two shell sizes mean?
A2: S and M are built on the M shell, and L, XL and XXL on the L shell. Choose the size that matches your head and the right shell comes with it.
Q3: Is the sun visor built in?
A3: Yes. It is an internal retractable visor, so there is nothing to carry or attach. Slide it down when the light is harsh.
Q4: What if the visor gets scratched?
A4: The visor has a scratch resistant surface, and a replacement is available in clear, smoke or mirrored finishes.
Q5: Can I take it on the highway?
A5: You can, but wind, grit and insects reach your face at speed. For frequent highway runs, a full face helmet is the safer pick.
