Modular, flip up or full face: what makes the Gullwing different

A modular helmet, also called a flip up helmet, has a chin bar that lifts. You can talk at a toll gate, have a drink at a fuel stop or get more air in traffic without taking the helmet off. The Gullwing goes a step further with P/J certification, which means it is approved in both positions. Most riders still keep the chin bar down at speed, because that is where a full face helmet protects best.

Choose your SMK Gullwing edition

Unicolour editions are plain and easy to match with any bike or jacket, and they are the ones to pick if you want an SMK gloss black or matt black modular helmet. The graphic editions add colour and attitude in gloss or matt. The listings on this page show what is in stock right now.

Gloss or matt: which finish suits you?

Gloss gives graphics a sharp, deep look and wipes clean easily. Matt has a flat, low-sheen look, but it needs gentler cleaning because polish and hard rubbing can leave shiny patches. Our helmet maintenance guide explains how to care for both finishes.

Size, fit and accessories

A helmet only protects you if it fits. Measure your head, compare it with the size chart on the product page, and read our guide to choosing a properly fitting helmet before you order. Spare visors, Pinlock inserts and other parts are in our helmet accessories category, and a Bluetooth communicator (the speaker pockets make fitting easy) pairs well with a modular helmet when you are ready for one.
