SMK Retro Jet Solid Gloss Helmet

Quick Overview

The SMK Retro Jet Solid Gloss is an open face helmet with a deep, shiny finish, real leather cushioning and a visor that swaps or comes off. It is certified to ISI, DOT and ECE 22.06.

Sizes S to XXL on two shell sizes, with a one year manufacturer warranty.

Gloss is the finish that makes a round helmet look round. Light runs along the curve of the shell, and the paint looks deep and clean in the sun.

The Retro Jet Solid Gloss is SMK's vintage jet helmet in a single, shiny finish with no graphics. It is a natural match for chrome, a roadster tank or a scooter with some polish on it. Prefer a flat look? Take a look at the matt version. Every model in the series is listed on our SMK open face helmets page.

Built for comfort and style

Inside, a real leather cushion sits along the edge of the helmet, with a breathable, hypoallergenic liner behind it. The liner is made from moisture managing antistatic fabric, and it comes out so you can wash it. A padded chin strap with a double D ring and a neck roll finish the job.

Key features

  • Gloss finish on an EIRT shell, a thermoplastic that resists energy from impact
  • Two shell sizes, so smaller heads get a smaller helmet
  • Multi density EPS liner layer for impact absorption
  • Long, wide visor with a scratch resistant surface
  • Swappable visor and side plates, with the tool included
  • Top air vents

Your helmet, your setup

The tool in the box lets you change the visor and the side plates yourself. You can also remove the visor completely and ride with goggles, and multi colour side plates are available if you like a bit of contrast.

Sizes, shells and weight

Choose from S to XXL. Sizes S and M come on the M shell, about 1,450 g. Sizes L, XL and XXL come on the L shell, about 1,550 g. The weights are approximate, within 50 g. If you are unsure of your size, the helmet fitting guide shows how to measure and how to check the fit.

Safety and certification

The helmet is certified to ISI, DOT and ECE 22.06. ISI is what Indian law asks for on a two wheeler helmet, DOT is the US standard and ECE 22.06 is the newest European one. Check the label inside the helmet when it arrives. It is an open face helmet, so your jaw is exposed. It suits city and relaxed riding better than long, fast highway runs.

Keeping the shine

Wipe the shell with a soft microfibre cloth and mild soap. Gloss can pick up fine scratches from rough cloths, so avoid anything abrasive. Hand wash the liner and dry it in shade. The full routine is in our helmet maintenance guide.

Warranty

The helmet comes with a one year manufacturer warranty.

Frequently asked questions

Q1: Should I choose the gloss or the matt Retro Jet Solid?

A1: They share the same shell, features and certifications. The only difference is the finish, so pick the look you prefer. Gloss shows off the paint, while matt hides fingerprints and dust.

Q2: Does a gloss finish scratch easily?

A2: Fine scratches show more on gloss than on matt, so use a soft microfibre cloth and avoid abrasive sponges.

Q3: Can I ride with goggles instead of the visor?

A3: Yes. The visor can be taken off, so goggles fit without trouble.

Q4: Can I wash the liner?

A4: Yes. It is removable and washable. Hand wash it and let it dry in shade.

Q5: How heavy is the helmet?

A5: About 1,450 g on the M shell and about 1,550 g on the L shell, within 50 g.
